This book is about the technology used in the Civil War by the North and South. It talks a lot about the usage and involvement of various people. It also deals with other aspects of the Civil War, such as key battles, important events, the army, and such.  Another topic is explaining how involved President Lincoln was in developing and applying new technologies in the war.
My favorite technology in this book is the Ironclads. Ironclads are thoroughly-armored war boats with canons on them that have their hulls completely below the water.  The book has a chapter on Ironclads, focusing on the Monitor and the Virginia.  That chapter goes into savory detail on the Monitor-Virginia altercation. It had a lot of neat facts in that chapter, such as where the Ironclads came from, who was involved with them, their implications for warfare, and how they became part of the South’s “homemade navy.”
I recommend this book to anyone interested in the Civil War.   I think it is an interesting way to learn about the Civil War. There are many new technologies that made this war completely different from previous wars.  It has excellent writing, superb illustrations, incredible detail, and is a good book in my opinion. Overall rating:  5/7
