Never mind

I recently decided that the contest was taking too long, so I'll lower that number of guesses to be revealed to just one. In absolutely unrelated news, the so-called Dad correctly absolutely completely 362% guessed my favorite song! It's probably my favorite because I used to listen to it all the time since I was too young to hear. Here's the low-quality picture of the art that I did that I promised:

  1. Hey! who you calling "so-called Dad"

  2. OK, so I'll admit it....during his formative years, when the other children were listening to Barney and Sesame Street and The Weebles or Peebles or whoever they were....I was exposing him to the Eagles' Greatest Hits, Fleetwood Mac, and other classic rock.

But, hey....who can say that Hotel California isn't a great choice for a favorite song? It's on most of the lists of the top 50 or 100 rock songs.......

  3. That's weird. Your clues had me thinking "Hotel California" but I thought, "Naah." Shows what I know.

    1. That might show what you know about classic rock, but not about jazz. Or philosophy. Or cats. Or deserts...

    2. By the way, why'd you think not so about the song?

    3. Two reasons, if you really want to know. The first is that the song sounds to me so rank with weepy, self-dramatizing, ersatz melancholy that it didn't strike me as your cup of tea, emotively speaking. The second reason is that, as the first one suggests, for some thirty-five years now I have loathed the Eagles, and especially that song, with a searing, focused hatred that made the mere thought of its being a favorite of one of my own kin well-nigh unendurable. So I think I pushed that possibility aside out of reflex.

I'll get over it. But I will never, ever, ever get over those annoying, inane, repetitive triplets: DAdada DAdada DAdada DAdada DAdada, DAdada DAdada DAda DAAAAA... Joe Walsh turns to Don Henley: "Modulate down, same thing?" "Why not." DAdada DAdada DAdada DAdada DAdada, DAdada DAdada DAda DAAAAA... "Again?" "Might as well. I got nuttin'." DAdada DAdada... And Uncle Donkey cries out to the Great Spirit who either doesn't exist or is, as Mark Twain said, a malign thug: "Please, anything, a spike through the skull, just make it stop!" But no: the Great Spirit laughed its malevolent laugh, and released through its evil agents... MORE TRIPLETS! AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHH!

That said, I think your illustration is very good. It seems to me I've seen it before—did you post it here?—and it was probably the unconscious memory of that, more than the clues, that caused those whispers of "It's 'Hotel California', dummy" in my head. In fact, I'd say it's a much better illustration of the song than the song is a song. I hope that some day, some smart, perceptive person associated with their record company stumbles upon it and buys it up to put on the cover of the next "best-of" compilation. That, unfortunately, requires there to be a smart, perceptive person associated with a major record company, so the chances are slim.

    4. Oh. Sorry for liking it. The one to blame is definitely my O'l Mom. You should definitely, definitely blame her for me liking it.
