Another forced content

Here's something intresting: What do the words smash, clash, crash, bash, gnash, slash, trash, mash, thrash, and slash? You might assume just that they all rhyme, which they do, but there is something more about this set. Try to guess! I'll tell you if no-one guesses it right.

  1. Most of them seem to involve sounds....

  2. Here's my guess: Each of them is both a noun and a verb. Am I warm?

    1. Hmm... Not really. When is thrash and gnash a noun?

    2. gnash, n. an act of gnashing. Dictionary.com. Merriam-Webster also states that it can be used as a noun, but doesn't specify the meaning.

thrash, n. 1: an act of thrashing. 2: rock music (as heavy metal or punk rock) that is extremely fast and loud. Merriam-Webster.

  3. Maybe you were inspired by Ash Wednesday...?

  4. Does hash fit as well, or is there something different about that word?

  5. Another thing that they have in common is that all of them cause confusion by stubbornly refusing to rhyme with "wash".
